Young man fighting for life after being mown down by van in Holbrooks

A young man was today fighting for life after being mown down by a transit van in Coventry.

The victim, in his 20s, was found with serious injuries near to the Unicorn working men’s club in Holbrooks Lane, Holbrooks, at around 11.40pm. He was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

It is thought that there was some kind of altercation before the incident.

Work is on-going to trace the family of the victim.

Detective Sergeant Jonathan Fanti from West Midlands Police, said: "We are appealing for anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward to help us piece together what took place last night.

"We have spoken to a number of witnesses already but are keen to hear from anyone who has not yet spoken to us to get in touch."

The white transit-style van reversed into the victim. He was treated for a head injury at the scene before being taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "West Midlands Ambulance Service received several 999 calls to reports of a car which had reversed, colliding with a pedestrian, on Holbrook Lane at 11.45pm (Thursday).

“An ambulance, a paramedic officer and a critical care car from the ambulance service attended the scene.

“Ambulance staff arrived to find a pedestrian, a man, who had sustained a potentially serious head injury following a collision with a vehicle."

“Ambulance staff and the doctor on board the critical care car quickly worked to stabilise his condition by administering advanced trauma care at the scene.

“The man was then taken by land ambulance on blue lights to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment.”

Man in coma after "brutal and deliberate" attack with van in Holbrooks

A man left in a coma after being hit by a van was the victim of “a brutal and deliberate act of violence”, according to police.

The family of the man, in his 20s, have flown from abroad to maintain a vigil by his side while he remains in a medically induced coma at hospital.

Police said he was is in a critical condition.

The attack happened on Holbrook Lane , near to the Unicorn Social Club, at about 11.40pm on Thursday, August 3.

Police have now launched an appeal to try and get information about the driver of the white Transit-style van.

Det Insp Stuart Bell, from West Midlands Police said: “We are appealing for anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.

“This was a brutal and deliberate act of violence towards the victim, who was hit by the reversing van at high speed. We are urging anyone who may information on the white transit van or its driver to please get in touch.

“The man was found with serious injuries near to the Unicorn working men’s club in Holbrooks Lane at around 11.40pm on August 3.

“I’d like to encourage anyone living or visiting the area at the time to cast their minds back and consider if they did see anything that may help us with this investigation.

“We have spoken to a number of witnesses already but would ask anyone who has not yet spoken to us to get in touch.”
