A man was taken to hospital last night after being hit by a quad bike in Longford.

Longford Road was closed for several hours last night following the incident.

Ambulance crews treated a man in his 40s for chest and rib injuries as well as back and abdominal pain.

When they arrived, he was fully conscious but was taken to hospital.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 5.35pm to reports of a pedestrian in a collision with a quad bike.

“Involved was a man in his 40s with chest and rib injuries, back pain and abdominal pain.

“He was fully conscious when we arrived and was taken to University Hospital Coventry.”

Traffic and bus services were being diverted due to the closure of the road, and police were still present several hours on.

West Midlands Police has been contacted for comment.

There is possibly a lot more to this story than has been reported.

The CT updates might be interesting.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Battered for beeping his horn - dad-of-three savagely attacked by quad bike thugs

Image

A father-of-three was savagely beaten and driven over with a quad bike after beeping his car horn at a gang of thugs, his family has said.

The victim was pulled from his brand new Mercedes - which was also smashed up - in Longford Road, Coventry, and viciously attacked on Sunday evening.

He was left with a fractured spine and will now miss a much-anticipated family holiday due to his injuries.

Police say the attack on the 48-year-old, who is from Coventry but now lives in Bedworth, happened at around 4.50pm on Sunday.

The dad is also a manager of a junior football team and was out delivering registration forms when he was attacked.

The victim’s brother told the Telegraph: “He was driving along and there were these people on quad bikes behind him. There were about seven to ten of them.

“They were swerving in and out of traffic and he beeped his horn at them and one of them kicked his wing mirror. They then put a brick through his back window so he had to pull over.

“They then laid in to him and drove over him in one of the quad bikes.

“He actually managed to get a photo of one of them.”

The victim, who works as a CAD design engineer, has been told by doctors he will be in hospital for at least two weeks having suffered a fractured spine.

He thankfully suffered no bruising to his face as he “curled in a ball” during the violent attack, his brother said.

“He was supposed to be going on holiday but the surgeon has told him he is going nowhere,” the brother added.

His family have also questioned the response of the emergency services, particularly the police who the brother says didn’t turn up until nearly two hours after the attack.

He said: “Numerous people were ringing 999 and police only turned up when paramedics called them to say they needed to get there.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service stated they received a call at 5.35pm and arrived at the scene in Longford Road shortly before 6pm.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to call Det Sgt Andy Malin on 101, ext 834 3015, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police apologise after taking TWO HOURS to attend quad bike road rage horror

Police have apologised after it took them TWO HOURS to respond after a man’s spine was broken in a savage road rage attack in Coventry.

The 48-year-old victim was left with serious injuries after being pulled from his car at 4.50pm on Sunday.

And despite a number of 999 calls being made, the first officer didn’t arrive in Longford Road until 6.45pm.

Fortunately medics had already arrived to begin treating the dad-of-three who was attacked after beeping his horn at a gang of quad bike riders.

He was pulled out of his brand new Mercedes - which was also badly damaged by the thugs - and battered before being ran over by one of the quad bikes.

Speaking to the Telegraph, his brother criticised the length of time it took police to arrive.

In response, Detective Chief Inspector Anthony Bennett, from Coventry Police, said: “On Sunday at around 4.50pm, we received a report of an assault and damage to a vehicle where a man had sustained serious injuries.

“Officers were not available to attend until 6.45pm.

“Regrettably on this occasion we have fallen below the standards that we expect. We fully understand the victim and his family’s anguish and like them, we want to bring these offenders to justice as quickly as possible.”

DCI Bennett said that he and his team are “currently looking into CCTV that has been seized from the location” and have taken statements from a number of witnesses.

DCI Bennett also stated that the problem of nuisance quad bikers in the city is very much on his team’s radar.

“We are aware of concerns from within the community of quad bikes being used in an anti-social manner and want to assure you that we are cracking down on this behaviour,” said DCI Bennett.

“We would encourage anyone who has dashcam footage or CCTV to send it to us.”

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call West Midlands Police on 101, quoting log 2013 of July 9.

Sadly, police numbers have been cut back so much that they now struggle to provide virtually any useful service at all. However, call someone a naughty name on a website and your collar will be felt rather quickly. :stir:

Our wonderfully Birmingham centric, but inept police commissioner, needs to get a grip of reality and start getting this particular house in order before vigilante groups start forming.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

CCTV clues as police hunt gang who pulled dad from car and broke his spine

Image

Police investigating a savage street attack that saw a man dragged from his car and beaten have released new CCTV images.

And a spokesman for Coventry Police has today said: “At the time we released images of the bikes thought to be involved and appealed for members of the public to come forward with information and submit any footage taken at the time.

“We’d like to thank everyone that contacted us with information. Consequently, investigators have launched a fresh appeal for information alongside CCTV stills of four people they would now like to trace.

“If you can identify them, please make contact with the investigation team at the earliest possible opportunity.”

Anyone who recognises any of the three people on the bikes or the other man, or has any information, is asked to contact PC Kelly by emailing m.r.kelly@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk and quoting crime number 20CV/144851U/17.

You can also call West Midlands Police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Arrest update on Longford attack that saw driver dragged from car and beaten

Police have revealed what happened to a man arrested over a vicious attack on a driver who was dragged from his car and beaten.

The savage beating in Coventry left the victim with a broken spine and the dad-of-three spent two weeks in hospital before being sent home to recover.

He had to wear a back brace for a number of months and is likely to have problems for the rest of his life.

Police investigating the attack in Longford Road in July last year arrested a man in December.

The 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding in connection with the attack.

West Midlands Police have now stated that he has been released with no further action to be taken.

No other arrests have been made to date, a force spokesman said.

As part of the investigation, detectives trawled through CCTV footage and released the photos of some bikers and another man they wished to speak to.

West Midlands Police have stated that they are still trying to trace these people and are urging anyone with information to get in touch.
