'V' premieres to 325,000 in UK

The remake of cult sci-fi series V made an encouraging start in the ratings on Tuesday (April 13).

The first episode drew 292k (1.6%) in the 10pm hour on SyFy, which rebranded from the Sci Fi Channel the same day. A further 33k (0.3%) watched on timeshift.

The second episode, which aired immediately afterwards at 11pm, pulled in 184k (1.8%) and 34k (0.7%) on timeshift.

Also popular in multichannel homes were E4's first look at Shamless, seen by 656k (6.9%) in the 11pm hour, and ITV2's The Vampire Diaries, which had 408k (1.7%) at 9pm and 137k (0.8%) on timeshift.

ITV1 trailed behind BBC One for most of primetime, meanwhile. At 8pm, Holby City pulled 5.8m (25%), while Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Celebrity Special took 3.21m (13.9%).

In the 9pm hour, Panorama interested 3.58m (15%), while ITV1's The Bill sunk to just 2.8m (11.7%).

On BBC Two, Grow Your Own Drugs and The Delicious Miss Dahl took 1.78m (7.9%) and 1.65m (7%), then in the 9pm hour, the audience rose to 2.49m (10.4%) for the second episode of fly-on-the-wall series Great Ormond Street.

Channel 4's Supersize vs Superskinny claimed 1.99m (8.6%) in the 8pm hour, then Heston's Fairytale Feast had an impressive 2.67m (11.3%) and 386k (2.2%) on timeshift.

The first episode in a new series of Cowboy Builders appealed to 1.39m (6%) on Five at 8pm, then a new episode of CSI was seen by 2.22m (9.3%).

Overall, BBC One ruled primetime with an average share of 22.6% to ITV1's 13.1%. Channel 4 was third with 8.7% (+1: 0.9%), followed by BBC Two with 8% and Five with 6.2%.
