The hunt is on for a young man who assaulted a PCSO during an altercation in Coventry city centre.

The pair were seen wrestling near to the Philip Larkin pub, at the junction of Corporation Street and The Burges, at around 3.15pm.

The officer eventually fell to the ground and the suspect ran off up The Burges before apparently taking a bike from somebody else and riding off.

Around six police cars and three ambulances all quickly arrived at the scene after 999 calls were made.

The air ambulance was also seen circling over the city centre, but it didn't eventually land.

An eyewitness said the PCSO was placed in to the back of an ambulance and the Telegraph understands he has not suffered any serious injuries.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the patient was taken to hospital by fellow police officers.

West Midlands Police have been contacted for comment.

Seems rather an overkill by way of resources. :stir:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

I'm surprised there was any kind of police presence in that area because I've never seen any when I've been there?

Hunt continues for teenagers who attacked PCSO in Coventry city centre

Image

Police have spoken to a number of witnesses following yesterday’s drama involving a PCSO in Coventry city centre.

The officer tried to stop three teenagers in Cross Cheaping at around 3.15pm in connection with an assault earlier in the day.

He ended up grappling with one of them close to the Philip Larkin pub, at the bottom of The Burges, in full sight of hundreds of shoppers and motorists.

The PCSO eventually fell to the ground, seemingly hurt, and the suspects ran off along The Burges before apparently taking a bike from somebody else and riding off.

As many as six police cars quickly arrived at the scene, along with three ambulances. The air ambulance also circled overhead, but didn’t land.

The PCSO did not suffer any serious injuries but was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

West Midlands Police are now hunting for three teenagers in connection with the incident and have spoken to some of those who witnessed the incident.

However, they are urging anyone with information who hasn’t spoken to police yet to come forward.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “A Coventry PCSO was assaulted after confronting three teenagers.

“The officer was searching for suspects following a common assault that happened earlier in the day and attempted to stop three people matching the suspects’ descriptions on Cross Cheaping.

“The teenagers assaulted him and made off from the area. Enquiries are on-going to locate those responsible.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident 1451 of June 27.

That area is crawling with CCTV so they must have pictures of the suspects?

...in full sight of hundreds of shoppers ...

Should've gone to Specsavers! There is nothing that end of Burgess to attract footfall, especially midweek.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
