BEREAVED parents are fuming that they have been forced to maintain the Nuneaton cemetery where their much-missed little ones have been laid to rest due to a 'disgusting' lack of attention.

They have taken it upon themselves to tidy up the baby and children's section at the cemetery in Oaston Road due to what has been described as a lack of attention from Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council's grounds maintenance contractor.

They have cut overgrown grass themselves so that they can see the graves of their children – not once, but on several occasions and now they say enough is enough.

Anger has been vented on social media, with one resident fuming: "It is absolutely disgusting that friends of mine have to cut the grass themselves at the cemetery where they regularly visit their little boy.

"This seems to be an ongoing problem and they have had to do it numerous times, over and over again.

"Babies and children are buried there, something needs to be done."

But it is not just Oaston Road cemetery where concerns have been raised, the state of grass cutting across the borough has been lambasted.

"It is disgusting like the rest of town," another resident said.

"They don't do the islands anymore, what do we pay them for? There's going to be more burial ground to get overgrown too."

A spokesperson for Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council said that grass has been growing at an exceptional speed over recent weeks.

They added that the workforce at Glendale, the council's maintenance contractors, are working over time to ensure that all land is maintained as soon as possible, weather permitting.

"It is unfortunate that some people have felt the need to cut the grass around their loved ones cemetery plots, grass growth is exceptional at the moment and we have committed additional resources to ensure the cemeteries are maintained to an appropriate standard," the spokesperson added.
