One of Coventry’s most popular restaurants has been given a hygiene rating of just one out of five.

Cosmo, the all you can eat restaurant on Corporation Street, has been told major improvement is necessary,

In its most recent inspection on March 15, officers found there to be an improvement needed of pest control, ventilation and hand washing facilities.

Inspectors found “improvement necessary” in hygienic food handling and the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building.

And they said that the management of food safety needed “major improvement necessary”.

In regards to food handling, officers said improvements needed to be made on the handling of food, including the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.

They also said improvement was necessary with the cleanliness and conditions of the facilities and building to make sure good food hygiene is enforced.

Cosmo was been contacted for comment about its hygiene rating.

Problems at the all-you-can-eat diner have been corrected, bosses vow

They said that “all improvements necessary” were made just hours after the inspection took place, which saw them marked down in nearly every single area.

Cosmo’s operations director, Thomas Pawlowski, said: “Naturally, we were very disappointed with this rating, but within hours of the council’s visit we had made all the inspector’s recommended improvements and we have invited them to return to re-inspect at their earliest convenience.

“We are confident we will regain our five star status. Our on-site management team has been completely replaced and our new team understand that standards of food safety and hygiene at our restaurant are of paramount importance.”

He added: “We want Cosmo to be a restaurant where families can come with confidence that everything is clean and well-cooked and as such most of our food is cooked live in front of the customer.”

Cosmo serves more than 150 dishes at its Corporation Street restaurant, and its TripAdvisor rating is three and a half stars, making it number 36 of 481 restaurants in Coventry.

Popular Coventry restaurant Cosmo closes down without warning

One of the most popular restaurants in Coventry has shut its doors.

City centre world kitchen Cosmo has today announced that it has closed its Coventry restaurant, blaming “tough trading conditions”.

Owners of the Corporation Street eatery announced the news on social media. A sign was also put up in the window - all the windows have been covered up.

The sign reads: “We’re sorry to inform you that we’re now closed.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you all for the loyal, warm custom over the years.”

However, the message posted to the Cosmo Coventry Facebook page offers more of a clue behind the closure.

Here, bosses Allas Management Ltd. said: “We’re sorry to inform you that we’re now closed.

“The well documented pressures on our industry and tough trading conditions mean that we have taken this difficult decision to close this restaurant.”

Allas Management Ltd, who are the franchisees in Coventry, have confirmed with the Telegraph that they have closed down the Coventry restaurant, and their license has reverted back to Cosmo.

Cosmo first opened its doors in 2003, and according to its website “is inspired by the best five-star hotels in the world, which bring a choice of fresh food under the same roof and elevate the buffet concept to new levels”.

With restaurants across the country, it appears as though Coventry is the only one to close. It has already been taken off Cosmo’s website.

There are 20 Cosmo restaurants open across the country, with the nearest to Coventry now in Wolverhampton.
