Three illegal immigrants have been arrested after a raid at a takeaway on Gosford Street.

Two men from Afghanistan and an Indian man were found after Immigration Officers raided Peppers Peri-Peri take-away on Tuesday.

The raid was conducted under new powers which have allowed the officers to gain entry without a warrant.

As of last week, officers are now able to enter a licensed premises without a warrant where there is intelligence to suggest illegal working.

Immigration visited the business at about 4.30pm and following checks, arrested three men for immigration offences.

These included two men from Afghanistan aged 23 and 25, who had entered the UK illegally and an Indian man aged 28 who had overstayed his visit visa. All three men were detained pending removal from the UK.

The takeaway now faces a potential financial penalty of up to £60,000.

Assistant director Carol Scarr, head of the West Midlands Immigration Enforcement team, said: “The operations my teams carry out are vital in tackling those employers who choose to flout the immigration rules.

“The new powers to enter licensed premises add to the tools already available to my officers and make our efforts to prevent illegal working even more effective.

“Illegal working cheats the taxpayer, negatively affects the wages of lawful workers and allows rogue employers to undercut legitimate businesses.

“All of our operations are intelligence led and I would encourage people with detailed and specific information about illegal immigration to contact us.”

Peppers Peri-Peri has been contacted for a comment.

It's actually at the top end of Far Gosford Street, nowhere near Gosford Street.

What's the betting that they are released on bail and then disappear into the ether?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
