At least one Coventry school has banned JoJo bows

Some schools are banning pupils from wearing very large coloured bows in their hair.

The craze for the pre teen garish hair accessories is sweeping the country thanks to dancing US social media star JoJo Siwa.

The 13-year-old always wears them in her Instagram pictures and YouTube videos.

In a January newsletter to parents senior staff at St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School in Heathcote Street, Radford, Coventry, asked children not to wear large coloured bows or elaborate head bands under the heading uniform reminders.

Some schools say the bows are not part of uniform while others cite them as a distraction from lessons. Even some dance schools are now banning them.

Big bows have been worn for years by competitive dancers, gymnasts and cheerleaders but young blogger JoJo has put them back in vogue after shooting to fame on USA reality TV show Dance Moms.

High street shop Claire’s accessories sells the branded bows at £8 to £10 but many parents get much cheaper non branded ones from other shops and online.

The bows are the latest in a series of crazes which cause headaches for teachers and parents.

When I was at school girls were banned wearing trousers until the mass bringing in of Indians and Pakistani s immigrants who were allowed to wear them but still not us until much later.

Goodness me Cashs would of soon gone out of business if this was years ago all the girls at school wore ribbons like an Alice band tied up with a big bow tied on top.
