A major Coventry road will be shut for ten days from today as the council carries out resurfacing work.

Charter Avenue, in Canley , is closed eastbound from Mitchell Avenue to Sir Henry Parkes Road in order to allow part of the road surface to be replaced.

The work has the potential to cause headaches for parents with a major route away from Westwood Academy and Charter Primary School cut off just as pupils return from the half term break.

Charter Avenue is also heavily used by traffic from Warwick University, Westwood Business Park, the University of Warwick Science Park and the nearby Cannon Park Shopping Centre - which means delays are expected in the area.

There will still be access to Moat House Lane, Freeburn Causeway, Sheriff Avenue and John Rouse Avenue via the central reservation crossing points on the westbound side of Charter Avenue.

Residents of the street were notified of the work last week.

A letter from Coventry City Council said: “Access to the closed sections of the road will be restricted to residents, businesses and essential users only (eg emergency vehicles and refuse collection) where possible.

“Any vehicles left within the working area (house numbers 126 to 90) on the above mentioned road during working hours, 7.30am to 4pm seven days a week, will be removed.”
