Police were called to a site in Coventry after Patryk Pisarek was seen on a fork lift truck

A teenager was caught driving off in a nine-tonne fork lift truck from a building site in Coventry.

Police were called to the site in Canley where Patryk Pisarek was seen in the large JCB Telehandler on July 16.

When officers arrived they saw the 18-year-old in the cab and he tried to flee the scene, but was arrested in nearby Scarborough Way after being chased by police.

Pisarek, of Cape Hill Road, Smethwick, Birmingham, appeared at Coventry Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to taking the JCB Telehandler without consent and damage was caused to the fork lift truck.

He was banned from driving for a year and ordered to pay £647 compensation.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “Officers were called to a building site on July 16 to reports of a man attempting to steal a fork lift.

“On arrival a man was seen driving the fork lift truck. He made off on road and was arrested in Scarborough Way following a short foot chase.”
