Warwickshire Police were called to the Co-operative store in Coventry Road, Exhall, at about 9.30pm where is was reported that armed men had tried to pull a cash machine from the wall.

The four offenders had attached a truck strap to the machine and to a Land Rover Defender which they then drove to pull the machine off the wall. However the strap broke and the attempt was unsuccessful.

The offenders then tried to smash their way into the store but staff closed the shutters and they could not get in.

There were three members of staff in the store at the time and one customer. No-one was injured and nothing was stolen.

The offenders are believed to be white men wearing dark clothing and face coverings. They left the scene and drove off in the direction of School Lane.

Investigating Officer Det Sgt Carl Buckley said: "This was a failed attempt to remove the cash machine and fortunately nothing was stolen and no-one was injured. It was, however, a frightening experience for the people inside the store and we are keen to bring those responsible to justice.

"I would ask anyone who saw any suspicious activity or vehicles, including a grey Audi A4 and the light coloured Land Rover, in Coventry Road or has any other information which would help with the investigation, to contact us."

Anyone with information is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or via their website http://www.crimetoppers-uk.org quoting incident 429 of October 26.

Well, it wasn't the muppets that nearly knocked me over last night.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Yeah, I'm OK thanks. Crossing at the lights by the Engine, some a'hole decides he doesn't recognise red lights. He was too quick for me to get his number.
