Travellers ignore court order to leave War Memorial Park

The small group had been given until 8am this morning to leave but they are still at the park

Travellers who moved on to Coventry’s War Memorial Park on Wednesday morning have ignored a council notice ordering them to leave the site.

The small group got into the park early on Wednesday morning after metal bollards that had been installed in a bid to restrict access were removed.

Two caravans and one recreational vehicle had set up camp there.

The travellers were served with a notice at 3.15pm on Wednesday afternoon by Coventry City Council ordering them to vacate the site by 8am on Thursday but they failed to do so.

Residents were alerted to the “unauthorised encampment” by Earlsdon Conservative Councillor Allan Andrews via Twitter early on Wednesday.

Officers from the council returned to court yesterday afternoon to take further legal steps to force the travellers to leave the park.

A spokesman for Coventry City Council said: “A small group of travellers has illegally encamped on the car park at the War Memorial Park.

“They were served with a notice to leave at 3.15pm yesterday and had until 8am today to vacate the site.

“They have failed to do so and the council will now take further court action.”

Coun Andrews has since tweeted that another court order has been secured and will be served on the travellers.

Their arrogance knows no bounds. But the reality of the situation is that they will get away with everything because they are a 'minority' group.

It really is high time that the majority stopped pandering to the minority. :fuming:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Well they have the best way of life traveling around the country no bedroom tax no council tax no water rates no rent no car tax to pay as they have no fixed abode I think that goes for insurance on their vehicles too unless its all changed I think if I could I would live that way they always seem to have plenty of money perhaps by the time the government have finshed with us perhaps I and many others might have to live like this before long .
