A guide to the buildings of Coventry and Warwickshire has been revised after 50 years.

The Buildings of England Coventry and Warwickshire, originally by Nikolaus Pevsner, has been revised by Chris Pickford and reissued with both names on the cover.

In its 801 pages the books covers churches, public buildings, follies, toll houses and even railway viaducts.

Mr Pickford spent six years revising the 1966 original. He grew up in Warwickshire and used to work in Bedfordshire as an archivist.

He said: “I have been revisiting many places from my youth. I was treading in my own footsteps as well as Pevsner’s and it was great fun meeting people who’d met him on his first visit. They said ‘he was a very rude man’!”

Mr Pickford has added in buildings that weren’t there in when the original was written. He has also expanded some of the entries.

He launched the book in July at the Chamberlaine Almshouses in Bedworth.

The Buildings of England, Warwickshire, by Chris Pickford and Nikolaus Pevsner is published by Yale University Press at £35.
