A driver was being treated by paramedics after his car hit a lamppost in Coventry when a second car collided with the ambulance.

Luckily the driver of the first car and the two paramedics, who were all in the back of the stationary ambulance, were unhurt in the second collision, along with the other driver.

The drama unfolded at around 7.25am on Friday morning after a Ford Focus struck a lamppost just off the Stonebridge Island, on the A45, and came to rest in a hedge

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The driver of the car, a man in his 30s, was being assessed on the back of the ambulance when the second collision occurred.

“Thankfully, the original driver was uninjured and together with the two members of staff assessing him, remained uninjured in the second collision.

“Fortunately for the driver of the second car, a man thought to be in his 50s, he too escaped injury in the incident.

“The ambulance was not so lucky though and while it was drivable, it had to be taken out of service while repairs were made to the rear door.”
