We are appealing for information after a barbecue was thrown from a bridge at a passenger train near Coventry.

The large metal device hit the 6.42pm Coventry to Nuneaton London Midland Service as it passed through the Durbar Avenue/Holbrook Way area just before 6.50pm on Tuesday, 14 June.

Fortunately, none of the passengers or staff on board were injured.

Now, our officers want to hear from any witnesses or anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously around the time of the incident.

Sergeant Robert Bowley, who is in charge of the investigation, said: “I cannot emphasise enough just how dangerous this act was. The consequences could have been so much worse. The people on the train were left shaken by what happened and were fortunate not to have been injured.

“The barbecue was thrown from a bridge and hit the train as it passed by. It subsequently got wedged underneath the train and was dragged along the track as the driver applied the emergency break.

“Not only did this cause distress to those on board, it also resulted in more than three and a half hours of delays and will have a significant cost implication for the train company.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who may have any information in relation to this incident, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to please come forward. You may have seen or heard something which could prove vital to our investigation.”

Anyone with information about the incident can call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text the force on 61016 quoting reference 494 of 14/06/2016. Alternatively, information can also be given to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Anyone caught for this ought be charged with attempted murder. :fuming:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
