A lucky neighbourhood in Coventry has today been revealed as the winning location in the latest People’s Postcode Lottery draw.

A bumper £3million prize pot is up for grabs in CV1 5, which includes the city centre, Gosford Green, Hillfields, Spon End and Coventry University campus.

Half of the money will be shared out among players living in the full winning postcode, which will be revealed at an event at Coventry Cathedral on Saturday, May 28.

The other half will then be divided out among players in the remaining CV1 5 areas.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt said: “Congratulations to all our players in the lucky postcode sector.

“They will no doubt be counting down the days until they find out how much they have won!”

When a Nuneaton postcode was drawn back in December, the biggest payout was £170,000 while in Blackburn last month the minimum payout was £1,000.

The maximum amount a single ticket can win is 10 per cent of the draw revenue, to a maximum of £400,000.

With a minimum of 27.5 per cent ticket sales going to good causes, players of the People’s Postcode Lottery have so far raised £119m for various charities across Britain and abroad.

Good causes in Coventry that have benefitted include The Boxing Clever Academy.

Earlier this year, they received £1,450 for the Boxing Clever Project, a programme which aims to give young people the opportunity to develop their fitness, self-esteem and confidence.

Lucky pair take home £184,000 as Coventry hits jackpot with People's Postcode Lottery

A lorry driver from Coventry quit his job after finding out he had won at least £4,000 on the Postcode Lottery - but he actually went home with more than £180,000.

Donald Tennant, 64, decided to call it a day from hitting the roads after finding out he was one of 79 winners in the city thanks to the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Little did he know that he was in for a windfall of £184,059 for playing with the winning postcode of CV1 5HN.

Donald’s life was changed forever along with the other lucky winners who each received their share of the massive £3 million prize pot at a ceremony at Coventry Cathedral.

Donald said: “I really would never have believed in a million years I would win this kind of money.

“When I found out last week that I was winning at least £4,000, I packed in my job. I’m not far off retirement and with my savings, I knew that I could stop working for good.

“Now, I’ve won £184,059 I will be able to have a really nice retirement, give my children a nice life too. This is going to make the rest of my life.”

Another big winner was 21-year-old Jesica McBride, who also pocketed £184,059 - and she has big dreams to fulfil.

The Fran Walsh House carer, who is expecting her first child in September, said: “I want to start a proper family. I live with my partner, Kieran, at his parents’ home - now we can think about buying our own house and make it our first family home.

“I’ve been dreaming of decorating a nursery for our baby and this win will now make that possible.

“I’ve also been dreaming of a certain pram but couldn’t quite justify it – and now I can!”

Not content with her new address, Jesica also has plans to move continents, saying: “We’ve spoken for a while about moving to Australia. With my work as a carer, and Kieran’s role as an electrician, we have skills that make the move a possibility.

“This win now allows us to seriously consider making the move.”

There were 77 other winners in the CV1 5 postcode who took home the remainder of the £3million prize pot with cheques ranging from £7,000 to £75,000.

With a minimum of 27.5 per cent going to good causes across the UK and abroad, players of People’s Postcode Lottery have so far raised over £118.8m for charities.

Good causes in Coventry that have benefited include The Boxing Clever Academy. Earlier this year, they received £1,450 for the Boxing Clever Project which aims to give young people the opportunity to develop their fitness, self-esteem and confidence.

Good luck to all the winners, but if I were one, I'd certainly not be being featured in the local paper.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
