A young man who took a gun to the New Year’s celebrations at the Coventry Skydome has been given a suspended sentence.

Abid Hussain, 20, was arrested in the early hours of January 1 after being found with a blank-firing pistol - a Bruni MOd P4 Cal 8mm - at the city centre complex of bars and restaurants.

Hussain, of Rocken End, Foleshill, previously pleaded guilty to charges of having an imitation firearm in a public place and possession an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He was sentenced at Warwick Crown Court and was handed a 12-month prison sentence suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to undertake a rehabilitation and activity requirement, as well as paying a £100 victim surcharge.

The intent was there, he should've been sent down.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

If he went into a bank and done the same blank gun or not it would be classed as armed robbery followed by a long sentance.

My brother ran a building society agency. One Friday afternoon two muppets walked in with 'guns'. I think they got away with a few thousand, but were apprehended quite quickly.

One of the ladies on the tills that afternoon never worked again. Yes, the guns were fake, but the terror was the same as if they were real.

I know someone that happened to as well, she couldn't even leave the house for weeks afterwards.
