Coventry park blighted by rats attracted by overflowing bins and rubbish-filled river

Residents have kicked up a stink with the amount of rubbish being dumped at a Coventry park.

They say some of the bins at Coundon Wedge Park are overflowing so much that they’re attracting rats.

And parts of the River Sherbourne which flows through the park are clogged up with plastic bags - and even bathroom accessories.

Glenn Hartwell, from Coundon, usually visits the park to take wildlife photographs.

He said: “I have contacted the council numerous times about the mess in the park.

“The bin had been overflowing for over a month and it is just not good enough with their blase responses.

“There is now a rat problem and when people bring their children here and it’s just disgusting.

“They shouldn’t have to go somewhere else from their local park because the park can’t be cleaned up properly.

“I go up there because there is some beautiful wildlife on that river, but people like myself won’t be able to enjoy that if it is a dump.”

Glenn said he had complained to the council numerous times about the mess up the park, and took to social media to try and get the issue solved.

He said: “I got so fed up with waiting for replies from the council, I posted on Facebook the issues with the bin overflowing, the rubbish in the river.

“They have emptied the bin since, but they shouldn’t leave it that long to clean up. I spoke to people who walk their dogs and 99 per cent agree with me.”

Glenn and another Coundon resident say they are willing to clean up themselves because they are so fed up.

In response to the complaints, a city council spokesperson said: “This bin is a relatively new one and was missed on the rounds. This has now been rectified.

“The supervisors who visited the site last week didn’t identify any other overflowing bins or heavy littering.

“Arrangements are being made to replace the bins with larger ones and a further inspection will be made next week.”

And there are plans to open up a river in the city centre? :rolling:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

They can have the rats that come in my garden if they like some are as big as cats there s no rubbish in my garden they come in from the grave yard. Down by Morrisons in Coundon they are as big as small dogs my mum use to see them why they plant shruberry where rats can nest and hide by food shops I ll never know hence why I am fussy where I shop as rat urine is dangerous to human health .

Perhaps CCC ought to do their home work rats continually pee as they run along they cannot hold their wee
