Sky has confirmed it will be hiking its prices for customers across the country, including those in Coventry and Warwickshire, later this year.

From 1 June, subscribers to the provider can expect bill increases of between £1 and £4.25 per month.

Television viewers across the city and surrounding region may be forced to fork out as much as £30 more a year when the price increase kicks in.

Sky informed customers on Monday, when it revealed new prices for its TV packages and upgrades.

Prices are set to change on both the Complete and Original bundles, with the former seeing the biggest jump in cost with viewers having to shell out an extra £4.25 per month.

New customers will still only pay £20 a month for Sky's basic package, or £240 a year, but existing customers will see the price raise by £1 to £2.50 - depending on the current price they pay.

Sky Q, which was launched in February, will also have a price alteration, with bills potentially costing as much as £672 per year.

Variety will also experience a price hike of 6.6 per cent, with the changes coming into effect at the start of June.

A Sky spokeswoman said: "We are always investing to keep Sky the best value entertainment choice for customers.

"This year we’ll bring customers even more unmissable original British drama, as well as the best US shows from HBO and Showtime."

In January, we revealed that popular TV packages is rising around five times higher than wages.

A basic Sky package cost £17 in December 2008, but subscribing to an equivalent package with the equivalent channel choice today would cost you £30 – a 76 per cent rise.

Meanwhile, the average wage for workers across the country, including Coventry and Warwickshire, has risen by just 14 per cent since December 2008.

Freesat spokesperson Jennifer Elworthy said: “The price of TV packages has increased drastically in the last decade and is becoming unaffordable for many families.

“People should no longer feel that they need to part with hundreds of pounds each year to watch great entertainment."

Sky will kill the golden goose if they aren't careful. I'd love to know just how close they are getting to the limit of the price elasticity.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
