Dogs to be microchipped

Every dog owner in England will have to microchip their animal from April 2016 under plans intended to cut a rise in strays.
The microchips will be coded with owners' details, and owners who do not comply could face fines of up to £500.

I reckon this'll turn out like the old dog licence.

Those of us that care will comply, those that don't, won't. Unless random checks are introduced to dog walkers I see this as largely unenforceable.

Why not cats as well? There are far too many unwanted moggies roaming around. Cat charities already chip every single cat. Breeders should be licensed.

My previous dogs were chipped, but as adults. They were both rescue dogs and were chipped as a condition of re-homing. I never had any issues with the chips, though on the last one you could feel it through her fur.

My present dog was chipped as a puppy by his previous owner, and I suspect at a very young age. I shall monitor things carefully. - Not that I can do anything now.

Your welcome Rebbonk I hope your dog does nt have any problems . The chips are very big are nt they. I just hope authorities dont fine these small dog or puppy owners . To me authorities should be checking these things out prior I just hate to think how many small dogs and puppies will suffer because of this law .

To be honest Melisandre, I've not followed this particular law being developed. But my usual thinking is to 'follow the money' if I want to see why something is being enacted with undue haste or against the public good.

As an example, do you know there is absolutely no technical reason as to why cars are fitted with catalysts? A search into the facts will reveal that due to clean air requirements engines needed to clean up their emissions. Here in the UK we could do it with lean burn technology. Mainland Europe hadn't got that technology ready, so lobbied the European Parliament to legislate that cars must have a catalytic convertor! The outcome, we are now not only making expensive and unnecessary catalysts, using some very nasty processes, but we then also have to dispose of them at the end of life when they are full of various toxins.

Yes Rebbonk money is at the root to every thing now most people I know now soon as they hear money mentioned it looses peoples interest even the charities adverts which cost a fortune to advertise.

My daughters boy friend is a machanic for a well known firm also my son use to work for BP also worked at a secret place where Conico was with Rover etc.

As for leaded petrol I read a while back there was no proof it caused a danger as the experts claimed the combustion was so hot it quickly burned away any dangers of fumes away before getting into the atmosphere but this is only what I read off the net .
