Coventry is 'hellhole of Britain', says town and city review site

Coventry has been slated in an article uploaded to a popular town and city review site.

The article appears on ILiveHere - a website described by creators as "Britain's town and cities reviewed by those who live there" - and was posted anonymously.

Headlined 'Coventry – The Hellhole of Britain', the article begins by declaring the city "the only place in the country where living there could be confused as a punishment".

As well as lambasting the city's entertainment and social scene, the article also criticises the centre of Coventry.

The article describes the city's "narrow, empty, soulless streets," before launching a stinging attack on the shape of business and employment in the city.

The writer argues: "Pay is low and a day’s wage is the equivalent of a bus ticket there and back, making it completely pointless."

Not missing a chance to critique the Coventry entertainment scene, the article describes the city's Sky Dome complex as having "overpowering smell of stale urine" and laments Coventry as "one of the least social places in the country".

The article continues: "Totally not a friendly place, Coventry is a place where a passer-by is most likely to greet you by spitting at the floor, than with a smile or handshake."

Saving the most stinging barb until the final paragraph, the anonymous writer signs off by telling readers to avoid the city.

"The only thing that it is known for is ostracisation (sic)... a three-floor Primark... and it’s easy escape routes."

The full article is worth a read, and to be fair there is a little truth in it.

Sorry but there s only one answer to this from me being born and bred here originating from Welsh parents who had the same greeting in 1939 but ignored it and carried on with life and was gratefull for work here when they eventually got worked in the factories not cushy Universities not given a council house but had to rent . I do agree with some things that has been written.
I now feel the stranger in town and remember the big plastic flowers in Broadgate I think this sums it up well.

Quite a few courses at University s are usless which most go on them to avoid being pushed into jobs they dont want or heavy manual work which takes brains and brawn . Cushy meaning have you ever had to clean up after these students on campass .

Having worked on the factory floor and in offices, I know which I prefer. ;)

The work is totally different and many are unable to make the change from one to the other. From my own experience I saw many more keel over with heart attacks in the offices than I ever did on the shop floor. Whether that was purely down to demographics I'd not like to say: the stresses and strains are totally different in the two environments.

And having taught at universities, as long as you keep out of the petty politics and are reasonably well organised I'd say it was the easiest job I ever had.
