The mum of a 30-year-old dad who was murdered six years ago has died before she could see his killer brought to justice.
Vanessa Devonish, aged 58, passed away on January 3 following a short battle with lung cancer.
Her son George, aged 30, was killed in 2008 at his flat in Violet Close, Wood End.
Despite a huge police investigation at the time - and a recent cold case review - his killer has never been caught.
Vanessa, from Wood End , never gave up hope that the person responsible would face justice.
One of six sisters, Mrs Devonish, formerly Greenwood, grew up in Coventry attending Charterhouse Infant School and then Tile Hill Wood Secondary School.
She married husband Neville in 1984 and had children George, Michael, Charlene, Michelle and Bethany and grandchildren Michaela, Decos, Mya and Kaine.
The investigation into George’s murder was re-opened last year with police suggesting that new leads had been uncovered following a review of the case.
As a result some items were sent away for forensic examination but a police spokesman said that this did not produce any new lines of inquiry.
The case remains open and anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101.
Vanessa’s funeral is at 10.30am on January 21 at Church of the Risen Christ in Wyken Croft, Wyken, followed by a burial at Lentons Lane cemetery at 11.15am.
A wake will be held afterwards at Broadstreet Social Club in Henley Road.
