Heartless burglars ransacked a cancer support centre in Coventry set up in memory of a brave young boy who died ten years ago today.

Daniel’s CANNcer Support Centre was targeted by crooks on December 19, just five days before the anniversary of Daniel Cann’s death on December 23.

The front door of the building in Warwick Row, in the city centre, was forced open and stock and tills were stolen, alongside a donation jar with a picture of Daniel on, who lost his battle with cancer at the age of six.

Felicity Cann, Daniel’s mother and founder of the centre, said: “They stole the tills, money, a fundraising jar with Daniel’s picture on and £1,000 of stock which we bought ourselves.

“They’ve caused untold damage. We need a new front door now, something with double glazing to stop them.

“It’s very upsetting. I’ve not slept properly since. The kids were devastated.

“It’s never a good time to be burgled but less than a week before the anniversary? It’s already a difficult time of year.”

The mum-of-five added: “It was Daniel’s 16th birthday this year.

“Working on the centre has carried me through the year and this has destroyed me.

“We just want to help people and be left alone.”

Coventry cancer support centre targeted by crooks for a second time

A Coventry cancer group set up in memory of a young boy has suffered a second break-in in six months.

Daniel’s CANNcer Support Centre, in Warwick Row, was targeted by vandals on the evening of June 2.

The centre has now released CCTV which appears to show a man circling the building for nearly two hours before an attempt is made to kick down a door.

The man is thought to have left the area when the burglar alarms sounded.

The latest incident comes just six months after burglars forced open a door on December 19 - just days before the anniversary of Daniel Cann’s death - and stole £1,000 worth of stock, tills and a donation jar with a photo of the six-year-old on it.

Felicity Cann, Daniel’s mother and founder of the centre, said “extensive damage” was caused in the latest incident.

She said: “This time it was just damage due to the new security system, but it was extensive damage.

“We need a whole new window, along with the front door repairing from the first break in.

“We are still boarded up because we can’t afford to replace it.”

In an emotional interview with the Telegraph after the first burglary, the mum-of-five told the Telegraph: “It was Daniel’s 16th birthday this year.

“Working on the centre has carried me through the year and this has destroyed me.

“We just want to help people and be left alone.”

Felicity put her life savings into the centre so she can help other families going dealing with the same heartache she has felt during Daniel’s illness and after his death.

The centre relies on the hard work of Felicity and her small team, as well as volunteers and donations.

The centre has a shop, tea room and three play areas, but Felicity is looking to make further renovations.

If anyone knows the man in the CCTV or has any information on the attempted break in, then they are asked to contact West Midlands Police on 101.
