The two-hour climax attracted an average overnight audience of 5.31 million (25.9%) at 9pm on BBC One, down from 2014's 6.18m.

However, the show was delayed by nearly 15 minutes by the live Sports Personality of the Year - and is expected to get a bump in the consolidated ratings. It is also one of the most-watched shows on iPlayer.

Andy Murray's win at the BBC's 2015 awards topped the night overall, but was still down by around 300k from last year, gathering 5.78m (25.6%) from 6.45pm.

ITV's Sound of Music Live experiment brought in an average 3.82m (16.2%) at 7.30pm (173k/0.8% on +1).

On BBC Two, University Challenge Christmas quizzed 1.63m (7.9%) at 7pm, while Channel 4's Bear Goes Wild with Barack Obama amazed 2.74m (11.5%) at 8pm (624k/2.6%). Homeland continued with 1.05m (4.4%) at 9pm (170k/0.9%).
