A total of seven churches across the city have joined the annual project for 2015 which will offer shelter, warmth and food to homeless people across Coventry over the coming weeks.

Volunteers will be on hand to welcome those off the street at venues including: St Paul’s in Foleshill, St George’s in Coundon, St Osburg’s in Radford, The Salvation Army in Upper Well Street, St Oswalds in Tile Hill, St Columbas opposite the Canal Basin, and St Anne & All Saints at Charterhouse.

Last winter the shelter took care of 169 guests over the period and helped 88 of them into more sustainable accommodation.

Nobby Clarke, project co-ordinator at Coventry Winter Night Shelter, said: “We have sufficient funds to get us through now, but would still benefit from extra means to help with the Move On fund which seeks to help support our guests into more sustainable outcomes.”

The 300-strong team of volunteers will be helped out by staff from Tesco who will be supporting Monday nights at St Paul’s by preparing, cooking and serving an evening meal for 20 guests and volunteers every week until March 31, 2016.

The Coventry Sikh branch of Midland Langar Seva will support Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday evenings in the same way, while Jubilee Church are again allowing the night shelter to use their minibus to transport guests.

This is to be applauded, but people aren't only homeless at Christmas!
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
