Police believe body is of Coventry warehouse worker Sameena

DETECTIVES investigating the disappearance of a missing Coventry warehouse worker believe the body found in a Leicester allotment is that of Sameena Imam.

Searches conducted on an allotment site off Groby Road, Leicester resulted in a body being found on Friday, January 16 and, while formal identification is yet to take place, police believe the body to be Sameena's.

A post mortem carried out at the weekend was inconclusive and toxicology tests to determine the cause of death are expected to take several weeks.

Sameena, aged 34, was last seen at her place of work in the Coventry branch of Costco on Christmas Eve.

Two men, charged with her murder, appeared via videolink at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday, January 13 and have been remanded in custody with a provisional trial date set for the end of June.

Roger Cooper, 40, of Tile Hurst Drive, Coventry, and David Cooper, 38, of Hughenden Drive, Leicester, were arrested at their home addresses on January 7.

Her family have been informed of this development.

Two brothers accused of murdering a cash-and-carry manager from Cardiff on Christmas Eve have been found guilty.

Costco store manager Roger Cooper, 41, and ex-soldier David Cooper, 39, were convicted of killing Sameena Imam, 34, at Birmingham Crown Court.

Her body was found buried at an allotment in Leicester in January after she was killed with chloroform.

Ms Imam had been having a two-year affair with Roger Cooper and issued him with an ultimatum to leave his partner.

An eight-week trial heard that Roger Cooper spent at least a month plotting to kill Ms Imam - one of his three lovers - to prevent her exposing their affair.

The men bought poisonous metals, identified a shallow grave and communicated in text messages written in a Star Wars-based code before killing Ms Imam.

Roger and David Cooper remained calm and did not look at each other as they were unanimously convicted by a jury on Tuesday.

Ms Imam is believed to have been overpowered on a sofa at David Cooper's home in Leicester after being driven to the property from Coventry by his brother.

She was reported missing by family members in Essex after failing to return home for Christmas, sparking a major police inquiry.

Detective Chief Inspector Caroline Marsh said: "I would say this is the most callous offence I have ever investigated.

"Most murders that occur are spontaneous events driven by anger or jealousy, whereas in this case what we uncovered was weeks and weeks of planning to kill Sameena, numerous attempts on her life and a really unusual cause of death.

"It's been a particularly challenging case and a particularly complex investigation and we are extremely grateful to the jury, who have listened to the case and given us the verdict we've had today."

Brothers jailed for 30 years after killing Sameena Imam

Two brothers who murdered a marketing manager on Christmas Eve using chloroform have both been jailed for at least 30 years.

Cash-and-carry boss Roger Cooper and ex-Army reservist David Cooper, aged 41 and 39, were convicted on Tuesday of killing Sameena Imam, whose body was buried on an allotment.

Jailing the killers for life at Birmingham Crown Court, Judge Patrick Thomas QC told the siblings: “The use of a poison in a case such as this demonstrates a cold-blooded intention to kill, regardless of the consequences.

“You worked together, hand in glove, in planning and carrying out the murder of a joyful and bubbly young woman, brutally betrayed by a man she loved and his brother.”

Ordering both brothers to serve at least 30 years before they can even be considered for parole, Judge Thomas said: "Poisoning cases are, demonstrably, very rare.

"Historically allegations of murder by poison were treated with such seriousness that they were almost invariably prosecuted by the attorney general in person."

The judge, who was told that a plot to kill Miss Imam was under way in early December, said of the offence: "It was a long-planned deliberate murder of a young woman whose misfortune it was to have fallen in love with you, Roger Cooper.

"You killed a bright, selfless, ambitious, hard-working and life-loving woman - a daughter, a sister and an aunt - because that fact was inconvenient to you.

"You, Roger Cooper, took her to Leicester, to your brother's house.

"Exactly what happened there you know, and no one else does. But I am satisfied that hardly had she entered the house that you two tall, strong men held her helpless while one of you administered chloroform, probably in a cloth to her face."
