An investigation was launched after a video showed a man being assaulted at Swanswell Park, Hillfields.

A 45-year-old man handed himself in at Coventry’s Central police station today in connection with the incident.

He is currently helping police with their enquiries.

Detectives are appealing to the fisherman to come forward.

PC Sam Wale, from Coventry’s violent crime team, said: “I am appealing to anyone who can identify the fisherman to call me or one of the team as we really need to speak to him.

“If you know him, then please ask him to contact us as soon as possible. He may be cautious about coming forward but we want to reassure him that we will deal with this incident with empathy and understanding.

“We continue to search for a second man we believe is involved in this incident and it is only a matter of time before we knock his door. He should think about his actions and do the right thing and come forward.”

Until the Telegraph contacted the police asking for further information no-one had reported the cruel attack to the authorities.

The video was originally posted on YouTube on September 23 under the title Swanswell Swim - but has since been deleted.

If anyone can identify the fisherman, or has information that could help the investigation they can call West Midlands Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
