Strange symbols on trees and bizarre wooden structures have been uncovered in woods in Earlsdon.

On social media people have been speculating about what it all means - with some even suggesting devil worship could be going on!

Red symbols and branches placed to look like something out of an occult movie have been found in woodland next to the site of the now demolished Wisteria Lodge care home, near Earlsdon Avenue South.

Nearby, Blair Witch-style symbols have been painted onto trees. One of the symbols resembles an ‘A’ while another looks like three crosses joined together.

A separate symbol is a pattern with a dash and two dots repeated - the same sequence which represents the letter ‘D’ in morse code.

Branches have also been used to create triangular areas. There is evidence that things have been burnt and two full blue bin bags were also found at the site.

The symbols have led some residents to speculate about the cause of the symbols on Facebook.

A message posted on the ‘Love Earlsdon’ Facebook page read: “I was taking a stroll in the woods at the back of Warwick Avenue the other day and came across this sprayed on a tree in a clearing.

“I’m pretty sure it is a sign used by those engaged in the black arts and nearby it looked like an altar had been set up for worshiping he who shall not be named. I hope I’m wrong but I would hate to think this sort of thing is going on in Earlsdon!”

Kate Maria Torrens, another user, said the symbols looked more like something out of Harry Potter: “A dark mark!? Voldemort... or maybe the Death Eaters!?”

On Twitter, Matt Partridge said: “Always a rumour of devil worshipping in the woods at the top of Earlsdon Avenue South.”
