Corrie was easily the most-watched programme of the day, bringing in 7.73m (36.3%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 176k (0.8%) on +1 as Maddie took a turn for the worse at the hospital, before rising to 7.92m (35.1%) at 8.30pm and 209k (1.0%) on +1 as Maddie lost her fight for life.
With its clashes with Britain's Got Talent now over, EastEnders was boosted to 6.72m (30.9%) at 8pm on BBC One as Phil and Sharon's marriage hit another crisis point. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 378k (2.2%) at 10pm.
Emmerdale interested 6.14m (30.6%) at 7pm on ITV and 131k (0.6%) on +1 as Rakesh tampered with Vanessa's DNA test results.
Hollyoaks logged its best figure in seven weeks as Grace's shock accident brought in 1.01m (5.4%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 159k (0.7%) on +1. Emotional McQueen scenes in E4's first look followed with 627k (3.1%) at 7pm and 103k (0.5%) on +1.
Neighbours also enjoyed a boost, achieving its highest rating since March 10 as 845k (5.9%) saw Susan and Lauren's tension at 5.30pm on Channel 5. Earlier, the lunchtime screening had 698k (9.3%) at 1.45pm.
Doctors appealed to 1.37m (18.4%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as Zara and Daniel began to turn against Jimmi.
Finally, Home and Away returned from its four-week break with 178k (2.4%) at 1.15pm and 620k (3.6%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look followed with 295k (1.6%) at 6.30pm.
