EastEnders was the most-watched programme on Tuesday (May 12) with a heartwarming episode for the Carters, overnight figures show.

6.64m (35.3%) tuned in at 7.30pm on BBC One as Linda gave birth to a baby boy after going into labour early - the show's best figure since March 30 and best audience share since March 3. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 324k (1.9%) at 10pm.

Emmerdale remained steady with 5.69m (33.6%) at 7pm on ITV and 237k (1.2%) on +1 as Alicia's drastic actions led to danger for Lachlan.

Holby City interested 4.39m (21.5%) at 8pm on BBC One as Adele continued to interfere in Mo's problems.

Neighbours entertained 577k (9.8%) at 1.45pm and 795k (6.5%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 with the fallout from Nick's shocking deception.

Hollyoaks claimed 705k (4.5%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Mariam fell foul of the Gloved Hand Killer, while a shock Cindy twist was seen by 459k (2.7%) on E4's first look at 7pm and 123k (0.6%) on E4+1.

Elsewhere, Doctors continued with 1.36m (23.4%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
