Bosses have announced proposals to shut the base at Coventry Business Park in Canley as part of a programme of restructuring measures.

It is not yet known how many jobs could go.

The discount bookseller, which sells books online and through its mail order catalogue, opened the office and warehouse in Dolomite Avenue in 2012.

The base houses hundreds of pallets of stock which is delivered by distributors throughout the UK And Ireland.

The Book People, which was set up in 1988 and employs around 600 staff around the UK, has acquired numerous other brands in the industry - including Index Books and Red House.

A spokesman for the company said its senior management had been tasked "with introducing efficiencies to the group to ensure it is in the best possible position to maximise sales potential, reduce costs and seize all available growth opportunities."

He added: “As a result of an intensive period of analysis, undertaken since the investment by Endless into the business in September 2014, a restructuring proposal was announced on March 10.

“It is important to note that these are just proposals and that a final decision has not yet been made.

“The biggest element of the restructuring proposal involves the closure of the Coventry site which serves our Index Group distributors.
