Coronation Street's mini-bus crash storyline boosted the soap to its best ratings in nearly a year, overnight figures show.
Corrie was Monday's most-watched show (January 19), bringing in 8.7m (39.5%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 128k (0.5%) on +1 as disaster struck for the Underworld workers while Steve McDonald was driving them to an awards ceremony. 8.7m (36.0%) also returned at 8.30pm and 146k (0.6%) on +1 as a number of the passengers struggled to make it to safety following the crash.
The Weatherfield soap had its highest figures since February 10 2014, when Roy Cropper disappeared as he struggled to cope with Hayley's death.
EastEnders also continued to perform well, attracting 7.68m (32.7%) at 8pm on BBC One as Linda decided that it was time to report Dean to the police. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 352k (2.5%) at 10.30pm.
Emmerdale interested 6.87m (33.4%) at 7pm on ITV as Charity's trial got under way, the show's best performance since October 20.
Hollyoaks claimed 1.03m (5.1%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Will threatened the lives of Maxine and Theresa, while Dodger's exit in E4's first look topped the day's multichannel ratings with 826k (4.0%) at 7pm and 223k (0.9%) on +1.
Waterloo Road continued with 559k (2.3%) at 8.30pm on its new home of BBC Three, while BBC One's repeat screening managed 1.04m (10.1%) at 10.35pm.
Elsewhere, Sheila Canning's health scare in Neighbours helped the show to rise up to 1.01m (6.1%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5, the show's best teatime figure since Kate Ramsay's shooting on April 22 last year. The lunchtime screening had 755k (9.9%) at 1.45pm.
Home and Away mustered 263k (3.5%) at 1.15pm and 517k (2.7%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 468k (2.3%) at 6.30pm.
Doctors was seen by 1.51m (19.9%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
