A batch of “fake and dangerous” Frozen dolls have been seized by Warwickshire County Council.

The counterfeit Disney toys are suspected to be Chinese imports and were stopped by county trading standards teams and the UK Border Force before going on sale in the UK.

The toys were cheaply manufactured, not made by Disney, and found to have contained high levels of phthalates - chemicals which are harmful to children.

Councillor Les Caborn said the council has been working with the border force teams for come time to protect children and ensure illegal goods to not make it into the county.

Phthalates are used to soften plastics but if ingested, can be linked to an increased risk of cancer and asthma.

Test revealed that 20 percent of the dolls contained higher than permitted levels of harmful chemicals with phthalates up to 51 percent higher in some cases.

A total of seven of the dolls also failed to meet toy safety labelling requirements.

Trading standards officers advise buyers to look out for the authentic Disney logo on Frozen branded toys, a feature which did not appear on the counterfeit versions seized this month.

There was a shortage of the genuine dolls before Xmas which may have tempted many people to buy the counterfeit versions instead.
