Man needed to have his spleen removed after savage attack in Holbrooks



A 61-year-old driver was attacked by a gang of yobs who blocked his path in Coventry and then beat him as he asked them to move.

The victim was hit over the head and repeatedly kicked.

He had to have his spleen removed after the attack.

He was driving along Rotherham Road in Holbrooks when he was forced to stop by a gang of youngsters stood in the road, outside the Premier convenience store.

The driver got out to ask the teenagers to move on but as he turned to get back into his car he felt a blow to the head, which caused him to fall to the floor.

The man was then repeatedly kicked whilst on the ground, leaving him with multiple injuries.

The man’s injuries were initially not thought to be serious but he was admitted to hospital a few days later where his condition worsened and he underwent surgery, requiring his spleen to be removed as a result of the attack.

Police have just released details of the attack which happened on Friday November 7.

DC Sarah Reeve, from Force CID in Coventry, is urging people to help them trace those responsible. “This was a nasty, violent attack on a man, in his 60s, who was innocently trying to go about his business,” she said.

“It seems the motive for the attack was nothing more than bloody-mindedness, leading to the youths attacking him when he simply asked them to move out of the road.

“It left an innocent man in hospital, requiring surgery, for no apparent reason and we now need the public’s help to trace those responsible for this sickening crime.

“If you were part of the group, or know who was involved then we urge you to come forward and help our investigation.

“This could easily have been your dad or granddad. Please come forward and tell us what you know.”
