Lewis Hamilton has been named BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
The Formula One driver defeated footballer Gareth Bale, dressage star Charlotte Dujardin, boxer Carl Froch and skiers Kelly Gallagher and Charlotte Evans.
Also up for the coveted BBC Sports award were golfer Rory McIlroy, 10,000 metres champion Jo Pavey, swimmer Adam Peaty, gymnast Max Whitlock and Olympic skeleton medalist Elizabeth Yarnold.
Pavey came in third place, with McIlroy finishing as the runner-up. Hamilton is the seventh Formula One driver to win the award.
After being crowned this year's winner, Hamilton said: "Firstly, I really want to say a huge congratulations to all the champions.
"I'm so proud and honoured to be among such great British sporting talent."
He continued: "I really couldn't have done this without my team. I want to thank my family… I've been incredibly inspired by my family. Tonight has been a huge reminder of how many great sportsman we have.
"I came here many years ago. It's just been a dream."
Tennis superstar Andy Murray was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year last year, with skaters Torvill and Dean, snooker player Steve Davis, boxer Lennox Lewis and football icon David Beckham winning in previous years.
Cyclist Sir Chris Hoy was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony tonight (December 14).
Prince Harry was in attendance to give Hoy the prestigious award.
Gary Lineker, Clare Balding and Gabby Logan hosted the awards show on BBC One from The SSE Hydro in Glasgow.
