Few people in Britain understand that public sector pensions are entirely paid for by contributions from existing state employees.

Also little understood is that all sickness-related payments combined account for less than 10% of the welfare bill and unemployment-related payments less than 5%. The figures are even smaller when measured as a percentage of total government spending.
