Coventry councillor Bally Singh has been chosen as the Labour party candidate to contest the Kenilworth and Southam seat at the next general election.

The constituency is considered a Conservative stronghold after Jeremy Wright stormed to victory in 2010 with 54 per cent of the vote and a 26 per cent majority. Labour finished third in that election with 14 per cent of the vote. The Lib Dems took 27 per cent of votes.

Coun Singh said: “I look forward to working in the Kenilworth and Southam constituency.

"I have been a very active campaigner with notable successes.

"I have fought to keep local services, bus routes and police stations facing closure open.”

Jane Soni, chair of Kenilworth and Southam Labour, said: “We are delighted. He’s well qualified to represent us in parliament.”

The Lib Dems have announced businessman Richard Dickson as their candidate while Wright is expected to stand again.

Rather a high self opinion and subjective statement, he'll do well as an MP.

Isn't it high time that MPs were made to live in their constituencies?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

I'm sure the Tory candidate will pick up on that point, not that Labour has a hope in hell of winning the seat in any case. Councillor Singh probably regards it as dummy run for a future nomination for a Coventry seat.
