A leisure complex in Nuneaton has been forced to close because of a fire in the gym.

Fire crews were called to the Jubilee Centre on Sunday night and tackled the blaze using breathing apparatus and hose reels.

The centre, in Greenmoor Road, is managed by Everyone Active, which took over the running of four sports centres in the borough at the beginning of this month.

A statement from the company said: “Jubilee Sports Centre will be closed until further notice due to fire and water damage.

"A full structural survey is carried out and we aim to have the centre open as quickly as possible.”

People have been advised that, in the meantime, they can use facilities at the Pingles, Etone Sports Centre and Hinckley Leisure Centre.

Updates will be given on-line at http://www.everyoneactive.com/jubilee.
