Hollyoaks E4 ratings rise further with Joe return storyline

Hollyoaks' E4 first look screening continued to rise in the ratings on Tuesday evening (April 8) as Joe Roscoe's reappearance caused high drama, overnight figures show.

947k (5.1%) watched at 7pm on E4 and 205k (0.9%) on +1 as the village's gangsters were left in a panic with Joe on the warpath.

The figure was the highest E4 rating for Hollyoaks since January 13. The top E4 figure for 2014 remains 974k for the aftermath of Finn's attack on John Paul on January 9.

Earlier, Freddie's decision to come clean to Lindsey over his lies brought in 952k (5.6%) in Hollyoaks' traditional 6.30pm slot on Channel 4.

EastEnders was the most watched soap of the day, claiming 6.58m (32.1%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Sonia learned that she has the breast cancer gene. The Walford soap was up against the Chelsea vs. PSG game on ITV, but BBC Three's repeat screening secured 483k (3.4%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale attracted 6.13m (33.0%) at 7pm on ITV and 235k (1.1%) on +1 as Priya finally sought help for her eating disorder.

Holby City, which also aired against the football, interested 4.6m (20.1%) at 8pm on BBC One with the aftermath of Bonnie's death.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours entertained 614k (9.1%) at 1.45pm and 811k (6.2%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away grabbed 192k (2.7%) at 1.15pm, 611k (3.9%) at 6pm and 435k (2.6%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.52m (22.6%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
