Nuneaton and Bedworth councillor breached code of conduct

A Nuneaton and Bedworth Council member has been reprimanded for breaching the authority's code of conduct.

Councillor Keith Kondakor, a Green Party member for Weddington, suggested on Facebook an officer should be sacked for failing to arrange snow clearance in Nuneaton, the authority said.

He has now been ordered to undertake additional training and to apologise.

Mr Kondakor said it was a "kangroo trial" because the panel was made up of opposition councillors.

"The council's standards committee is in place to ensure elected members maintain the standards expected of them by the public," said Phil Richardson, the authority's director of governance and recreation.

"The panel determined that councillor Kondakor fell below those standards, bringing an officer's reputation into disrepute by making comments even though it was wrong to do so.

"Councillor Kondakor will now receive training in an effort to ensure this is not repeated."

Mr Kondakor said: "My comments should have been worded differently but I feel the council has totally failed the market traders and public by only clearing the snow when we raised the matter."
