Three people in their 80s mugged in Coventry

Postby dutchman » Thu Feb 13, 2014 1:36 pm

Three elderly people have been mugged in Coventry in the space of a week.

At 10am yesterday an 83-year-old woman was pushed from behind in Barnfield Avenue, Allesley.

Her fall was severe enough to cause a bruised and bloodied nose, swollen eyes, a loose front tooth and bruised ribs.

Her attacker fled along Flynt Avenue with a bag containing a small amount of cash.

Last Friday at 10.30am an 89-year-old woman was pushed to the ground as she walked through the cemetery in Rectory Lane, Allesley.

Her handbag was stolen containing medals, a mobile phone and cash.

At 8am the next day an 87-year-old man was pushed to the ground in Broad Park Road, Wood End, and had a bag containing shopping worth just £1.90 snatched.

CCTV clues in hunt for violent street muggers who robbed Coventry OAPs

Police are trawling through CCTV footage in their hunt for violent street muggers who targeted three people in their eighties in Coventry

Police have been trawling through CCTV footage as they hunt violent street muggers who have targeted three pensioners in Coventry during the past week.

Detectives have released more details of the attacks which were first revealed in the Telegraph yesterday.

In the latest incident an 83-year-old woman was badly hurt when she was attacked in Allesley on Tuesday morning.

Police say a short, skinny white man with dark brown hair and wearing dark tracksuit bottoms shoved her to the ground in Barnfield Avenue.

He grabbed her bag containing a small amount of cash and ran off down Flynt Avenue.

The woman suffered a bruised and bloodied nose, swollen eyes, a loose front tooth and bruised ribs.

Det Con Lee Buckler, of Coventry Police, said: “Although her injuries will heal, the distress and shock that she has suffered will take much longer to recover from.”

The attack is the latest in a series of despicable OAP muggings in the city.

At 8am on Saturday an 87-year-old man was pushed to the ground in Broad Park Road, Henley Green, and had a bag snatched containing shopping worth just £1.90.

And at 10.30am the previous day, an 89-year-old woman was pushed to the ground as she walked through the cemetery in Rectory Lane, Allesley.

Her handbag was stolen containing medals, a mobile phone and cash.

At the moment the crimes are not being linked.

DC Lee Buckler said: “Thankfully neither the lady or gentleman in the first two crimes suffered significant injury and will make a full recovery but, given their age, this could have been much worse.

“We are understandably keen to find those responsible for these despicable crimes as soon as possible.’’
