Gabriella Cilmi has said that the video for her new single needed to be sexy to match the song.

The singer-songwriter told The Daily Telegraph that she was trying to do something different from her past work on the clip for 'On A Mission'.

Climi said: "The song is 'I am a woman on a mission', so it kind of required that little bit of skin. I was inspired by Jane Fonda in Barbarella.

"All the articles that have been written lately have said 'There's nothing sweet about Gabriella", that kind of thing - but I guess so. I was 15 when I filmed the video for 'Sweet About Me'."

Of her shift in musical direction, she added: "I knew that I wanted to do something different.

"All my favourite artists have always changed and tried different things, so I knew that I wanted to try something. To make a record that I would like to hear if I was going out, if I was on the dancefloor."
