Norovirus closes Warwick Hospital wards (Update)

Postby dutchman » Sun Jan 12, 2014 6:04 pm

Five wards at Warwick Hospital have been closed to visitors after an outbreak of the norovirus winter vomiting bug.

South Warwickshire NHS Trust said they would remain closed until further notice.

They said visitors would only be allowed on compassionate grounds, at the discretion of the ward manager.

Children's, maternity and intensive therapy wards are not affected by the outbreak.

Visiting back to normal at Warwick Hospital as vomiting bug eases

Normal visiting times have resumed at Warwick Hospital, following an outbreak of norovirus last week.

But South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT), which runs the hospital, is still stressing the importance of preventing infection while at the hospital.

Visitors are asked to consider their health before entering the hospital. Anyone who has had symptoms of norovirus - sickness and diarrhoea - within the last 48 hours or been in contact with anybody who has is asked to keep away to prevent the risk of patients catching the virus, which is highly contagious.

Those who do visit the hospital are asked to wash their hands at the basins provided before entering any wards, following the washing procedure in the notices on display.
