Almost 150 of them have either written letters or signed petitions opposing plans to build 41 affordable homes off Park Lane in Nuneaton.

They say that the development will have a major impact on traffic in the already congested Park Lane area, including near to the primary school and nursery.

Concerns have also been raised about the homes affecting nearby wildlife as it is being built on open space land.

They have also raised fears about a potential increase in crime, noise and pollution as a result of the creation of the new homes.

But their objections look as if they have fallen on deaf ears as planners at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council are recommending that the proposals are given the green-light.

It is the borough council itself that is seeking permission to build the homes.

As reported in the News, it is no secret that there is a huge demand for council's housing, and the waiting list is ever-increasing.

The local authority is also acutely aware that there is a lack of affordable homes and the Park Lane development is one of three that it is looking to create across the two towns to help alleviate the borough's housing problems.

Members of the council's planning committee are due to meet to discuss the application on Tuesday, January 7.

In a report to the members, council officers are recommending that the plan is given the go-ahead.

They say that emergency services and other organisations were made aware of the proposals and other than those of local residents, no other objections were raised.

"Having regard to the pattern of existing development in the area, relevant provisions of the development plan, and the consultation responses received, it is considered that subject to compliance with conditions, the proposed development would be in accordance of the development plan, would not materially harm the character or appearance of the area or the living conditions of neighbouring occupiers and would be acceptable in terms of traffic safety and convenience," the report states.

The planning members will discuss the proposal, along with others, during the meeting which will be held in the council chamber at the Town Hall from 5pm.
