Coronation Street, EastEnders close in Friday soap ratings

Coronation Street and EastEnders were neck-and-neck in Friday evening's soap ratings (December 27), overnight figures show.

Corrie pulled in 8.04m (33.9%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 167k (0.7%) on +1 as Hayley awaited her latest test results, while 7.95m (33.6%) returned at 8.30pm and 246k (1.1%) on +1 as Hayley heard the tragic news that she only has weeks left to live.

EastEnders attracted 7.97m (34.2%) at 8pm on BBC One as the Carters faced a few hitches on their first day in charge of the Queen Vic. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 433k (2.8%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale appealed to 6.7m (30.5%) at 7pm on ITV and 195k (0.8%) on +1 as Charity saw an opportunity to frame Sam for the Home Farm fire.

Hollyoaks interested 755k (3.9%) at 5.50pm on Channel 4 and 141k (0.7%) on +1 as Mercedes and Lindsey found themselves in danger due to Trevor, while Freddie's attempts to save them were seen by 938k (4.7%) at 6.20pm.

Afterwards, the next E4 first look screening of Hollyoaks mustered 484k (2.2%) at 6.50pm and 155k (0.7%) on +1, while the second first look of the night followed with 516k (2.2%) at 7.25pm.
