'Turbo' races past 'Captain Phillips' at UK box office

Turbo has topped the UK box office on its first weekend on release.

DreamWorks and 20th Century Fox's 3D animation, featuring the voices of Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson, earned £3.8 million (including £1.7 million from previews) to secure first place ahead of Captain Phillips.

Tom Hanks's true-life hijacking drama pulled in £3.4 million (£461,436 from previews) over the weekend, putting it ahead of the week's other big new release Escape Plan.

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger's team-up delivered £961,470, while last week's number one Prisoners and Sunshine on Leith round out the top five.

Elsewhere, Bollywood release Boss debuts at number nine with £235,086 from its 63 locations.
