Friday soap ratings: Hayley's big decision shared with 8.3m

Coronation Street was Friday evening's most-watched soap (October 18) as Hayley Cropper's 'right to die' storyline began, overnight figures show.

8.28m (40.5%) watched at 7.30pm on ITV and 221k (1.0%) on +1 as terminally-ill Hayley told Roy that she intends to take her own life, while 7.7m (34.4%) returned at 8.30pm and 286k (1.4%) on +1 to see the emotional aftermath for the Croppers.

Emmerdale interested 7.48m (38.4%) at 7pm with the fallout from the siege and Cameron's death, adding 192k (0.9%) on +1.

EastEnders managed 6.32m (29.3%) at 8pm on BBC One as Alice carried out a cunning plan, while BBC Three's repeat screening secured 313k (2.1%) at 10.30pm.

Hollyoaks claimed 1m (5.5%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Dennis and Leanne received tragic news, while E4's first look followed with 763k (3.9%) at 7pm.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours grabbed 628k (9.1%) at 1.45pm and 943k (6.3%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away entertained 305k (4.3%) at 1.15pm, 635k (3.8%) at 6pm and 350k (1.9%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors brought in 1.36m (19.8%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
