The successful programme of regeneration taking place in Far Gosford Street is set to continue for a further two years with the approval of an additional £1.1million.

The grant will be used to restore more properties on the historic street including the final group of medieval Grade II listed buildings, some locally listed buildings and other buildings of importance within the Conservation area.

“Far Gosford Street is being regenerated into the thriving area that it once was,” said Coun Lynnette Kelly, Cabinet Member for Business, Enterprise and Employment.

“The additional funding will enable the area’s continued improvement, creating an attractive entry into the city centre and a new creative quarter that will welcome businesses and creative industries into Coventry.

“The whole street already looks dramatically different – some of the restored historic buildings look magnificent and there is a real buzz of excitement about the place.

“This grant funding will enable us to continue the transformation of this fine street – so it’s really good news.”

The grant programme will run over a two year period and will build upon the success of the Phase 1 project which saw £7.5m of public and private funds invested in the restoration of a number of properties alongside improvements to routes in and out of the street.

The owners of properties within the Conservation Area can apply for the grant money to fully restore and reinstate historic fabric and architectural details.

The new grant for street-wide improvement is in addition to the European Regional Development Funding already approved for the street’s anchor project, Fargo Village.

The creative village is set to turn the area into a thriving zone of creative businesses and alternative retail and leisure facilities and secure long term economic sustainability.
