Postby dutchman » Sat Aug 31, 2013 7:09 pm

A number of cars in a village near Coventry have been set alight causing "extensive damage".

Police were alerted to the first car being on fire in Exhall Road, Keresley End, just after 03:15 BST.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said it dealt with five incidents until just after 06:00 BST.

Police said vehicles were also set alight in The Crescent, Hill Road, Woods Piece and Howat Road, and believe the fires were started deliberately.

Some residents were advised to leave their homes while the flames were extinguished.

The vehicles include a Volvo C30, a blue Peugeot Boxer van, a white Volkswagen panel van and a blue Skoda Fabia.

Warwickshire Police said no-one was injured and are appealing for information from anyone in the area who may have seen anything suspicious.

They are also advising car owners in the area to check round and under their vehicles before driving off in case inflammable materials have been placed but have not ignited.

Police probe new Keresley car blaze

Police are investigating after yet another car was set on fire in Keresley.

A silver Peugeot 206 was set alight on Somers Road, Keresley End and police were called to the scene just after 2am on Sunday.

The car blaze was extinguished by firefighters.

No one was injured on Sunday, but police believe the fire may be linked to an arson spree in the area on Saturday August 31.

Six parked cars were set alight that night, and all were destroyed.

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious on Saturday night or Sunday morning, or anyone who has private CCTV in Somers Road, or the surrounding roads.

Extra police patrols have been put into place in the area.

Anyone who has any information about the car fire is asked to contact Detective Constable Steve Keay in the local investigation team at Nuneaton Police Station on 02476 483206, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 where the information can be given anonymously.

Keresley End arson attacks prompt plea over street lights

Calls have been made for street lighting to be permanently switched back on at night in Warwickshire.

The county council currently turns the lights off in the early hours of the morning in Keresley End, in order to save money.

But, bosses decided to leave them on for 30 days after seven cars in the village were set on fire.

Now villagers want the move made permanent, according to Nuneaton and Bedworth councillor Sara Doughty.

She said: "Residents are fearful. When the lights were on they could look out their window if they heard a noise and see if it's just kids messing around... now if they look out the window they can't make that judgement call."

Six cars were set alight in Keresley End on 31 August while a seventh was set on fire last month.
