Travellers on Hearsall Common given deadline to leave...

Travellers who moved on to Hearsall Common at the weekend were given a deadline of last night to leave the site – or face the bailiffs being called in.

Coventry City Council served a ‘direction to leave’ notice on the makeshift camp of ten caravans on Saturday.

Council officers warned the traveller families if they failed to heed the warning then the council’s legal team would seek an eviction notice through the County Courts.

That could mean bailiffs being brought in to forcibly move off the caravans.

The illegal camp is the latest to pop up in the city over the summer months.

Half a dozen caravans moved on to the main car park of the War Memorial Park, in Kenilworth Road, last week, which parked over a number of disabled parking bays.

A smaller camp was also forced to leave Longford Park back in July.

Confiscate their cars and vans to defray council costs!
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Hearsall Common travellers stay put as Coventry council head to the courts

Council chiefs are taking their fight to move an illegal travellers camp off Hearsall Common in Coventry to the courts.

The group of about ten caravans moved on to the site at the weekend and despite being given a deadline of 5pm on Monday to leave, they have not left.

Coventry City Council’s legal team, who have followed all of the procedures needed to deal with travellers sites, are now taking further action and are seeking an eviction through the county court.

Which leaves the tax payer out of pocket. It really is about time that this problem was put to bed once and for all
